F-84 Thunderjets, BAe Hawk CT-115,
BAe Hawk T1
The choice of aircraft seems a trifle eclectic but the
inclusion of the new Canadian NATO training Hawk makes
it worth the price of admission for me. There's also an
overall black Hawk T1 from 100 squadron, but the majority
of the markings are for French, Dutch and Norwegian F-84E/Gs.
Actually, they are quite colourful examples, the French
ones in particular having some pretty spiffy tip tank
markings, and would make a nice change to the plethora
of USAF F-84s out there.
The inner and outer portions of the roundels are printed
seperately to avoid register problems (always appreciated!)
as are the orange centres of the Dutch national insignia.
The majority of the two Hawks' markings are in white which,
despite my best efforts with Adobe Photoshop, don't really
show up in the scan. Also included are the small British
roundels for the test flights of the CT-115 which go over
top of the Canadian markings (sacrilege!).
Printing quality is excellent, the decals are nice and
thin and the colours look solid - hopefully that will
be the case when the white markings are applied on the
dark blue or black Hawks. Model Art quotes the colour
for the Canadian Hawk as 'Midnight Blue' (FS 15044) which
I think is correct. I've seen a couple of reference features
and a build up of the Italeri kit which say the colour
is 'Blue Angels Blue', but that seems too bright to me
- they appear quite dark in the photos I've seen.
The sheet retails here in the UK for
£6.25 - pretty pricey if you ask me (you didn't,
but I'm telling you anyway), especially if you only want
to do one or two of the featured aircraft, but it is an
excellent sheet nonetheless.
