Hasegawa's range of 1/72
scale armour is getting a bit long in the tooth now and
really can't compete with newer kits that have come out
from the likes of Revell, IBG, Dragon, Roden, Mirage and
Trumpeter. Though somewhat basic, Hasegawa's kits are
still good starting points for decent models, especially
for those subjects that aren't available from other manufacturers.
Even with extra work to bring them up to par however,
they are still burdened by one factor: their tracks are
crap. While the majority of the new releases from other
manufacturers in this scale have link and length tracks
- and Esci/Ertl had 'em years ago - Hasegawa insist on
giving us thick rubber bands that look more like picket
fences from an N scale railroad layout than an AFV's tracks.
Nothing special about this
really. I replaced the headlight guards and the handles
on the external fuel tank with brass rod and drilled out
the ends of the guns as usual. Antennas are stretched
sprue.
If only that damned N scale suburban family wouldn't keep
putting up patio lanterns and having barbecues behind
the tracks.
