Another resin figure, and
a first for me trying to replicate this skin tone. Humbrol
enamels were used for most of it, with only the cape and
leggings done in Vallejo acrylics and the skull in Testors
Model Master Aged White acrylic. Washes were Vallejo,
dry brushed with Humbrol enamels. The armour is Humbrol
Metal Cote Steel, highlighted with SNJ Aluminum powder.
The spear was finished in Alclad Steel and Pale Gold.
I'm not sure of the wisdom
in going into battle wearing nothing but a bit of armour
on the arms and legs, but judging by the skull, it seems
to work for her.
The stone ring had a pretty
serious defect as seen in the above picture. This was
originally on the front side, and since the ring could
only be attached to the base one way, I had to cut this
section off at the junction of the two larger side pieces
and flip it around so the defect was on the back. A fairly
simple fix that worked quite well.
The right hand was cast
as part of the spear shaft, but the latter was badly warped
and would have been difficult to get perfectly straight.
I found it much easier
to cut the warped shaft off and then hollow out the area
between the thumb and fingers to allow a piece of brass
tubing to be inserted.
The finished spear. Both
upper and lower sections were also warped so these were
straightened in near-boiling water before attaching to
the brass tubing. The upper section was glued on after
the spear was painted and inserted into the hand.
