An original Aurora kit
that I've had since I was about 9 or 10 years old, making
it the oldest model in my collection. This is the second
time I've restored it, the last time being at least 30
years ago.
It was always one of my
favourites of the Aurora monster models, despite the rather
odd proportions of the skeleton. The torso is rather squat
in relation to the legs and the skulls look decidedly
pre-historic. I did consider replacing the latter with
more accurate 3D printed items, but in the end I decided
to keep Aurora's original skulls, primarily for nostalgic
reasons.
Paints used were mainly
enamels from Humbrol and Testors Modelmaster, with various
washes of Vallejo acrylics. The snake and spider are painted
to represent species I found in online pictures. In all
likelihood, they would probably never be seen together,
but I liked the way they looked and they added a bit of
colour to an otherwise fairly drab scene. It's nice to
know that spiders, rats and snakes can live together in
peace and harmony in the comfort of their very own dungeon.
"Hey, c'mon in. Careful you don't trip over the rotting
corpse, he's just here for ambience. And food.".
My, what big hands you
have. It's fairly obvious things aren't going to turn
out well for you when you're put in a dungeon with a sign
hanging on the wall that says "The Forgotten Prisoner".
Not quite as inspiring as "Home Sweet Home",
or "Live, Laugh, Love".
A pretty horrible way
to go when you think about it, but he seems to have retained
his composure despite the adversity of starving to death
and being left to rot in a dungeon. At least he had friends
to keep him company in his final hours.
